Shoreditch startups worth checking out this month

In place of our usual ‘couldn't live without’ post, we decided to tell you about three local startups that the Codegent team have been championing in Tech City this month. Focusing on an important topic of conversation within the office, food and drink, here are 3 new businesses that we think are worth checking out.

1. Desk Beers

What is it? Desk Beers is an exciting new venture from the guys at Mint Digital. They handpick beers from a different local brewery each week and deliver them cold, to your desk each Friday.

Why do we love it? Not only is it reasonably priced (£2.50 per bottle incl. delivery), we love the excitement of trying something new every week! Each brew comes with a different story and history, ranging from Pales Ales to Stouts, Lagers and more. Another great feature is that the subscription is commitment free – you don’t get tied into a contract and can choose how regularly you want your deliveries.

Why will you love it? Have you seen the excitement in the office when a package of beers arrive?

Does anything let it down? It's only available to London postcodes at the moment but we've heard a rumour they might extend this in the future.

2. Burger Bear

What is it? Burger Bear is a Kickstarter project started by a Burger-fanatic called Tom, whose mission in life is to make a sustainable Burger Bear diner out of a double decker shipping container in Silicon Roundabout’s Red Market.

Why do we love it? Every ingredient (save the lettuce which comes from Cambridge) is sourced from London, within the M25. We visited on a Thursday when it’s hosted in Translate Bar, a circus themed restaurant/bar which gave it a great atmosphere for a lunchtime venue. Did I also mention they invented Bacon Jam?

Why will you love it? What’s not to love – an amazingly dirty, junk-free burger located in the hive of activity and excitement surrounding Shoreditch. They even accept Crypto currency as payment!

Does anything let it down? It’s crowd funded so it may take a while to see it at its full potential!

3. Nincomsoup

Ok – so it isn't a complete start up – but it’s a one off that we think needs shouting about!

What is it? Nincomsoup is a fast food diner specialising in soups, juices and coffee - founded to provide a healthy alternative to the usual fast food suspects that litter the high streets of Shoreditch.

Why do we love it? It’s one of the only places we've managed to find locally that actually sells 100% fresh vegetable juice – made in front of your eyes! Not only is it fast food, it is healthy and super yummy too! Located in Old Street Tube station it certainly brightens the place up and as personal added bonus, is just a short stroll away from the Codegent office.

Why will you love it? It makes healthy eating quick and easy, plus they have different soup specials every day and always include a yummy vegetarian option.

Does anything let it down? The website could do with a little updating if we're going to get really picky.
